’al-təḇahēl ‘al-pîḵā wəlibbəḵā ’al-yəmahēr ləhôṣî’ ḏāḇār lip̱ənê hā’ĕlōhîm kî hā’ĕlōhîm baššāmayim wə’attāh ‘al-hā’āreṣ ‘al-kēn yihəyû ḏəḇāreyḵā mə‘aṭṭîm | Qoh 5:1 [KJV 5:2] Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few. |
kî bā’ haḥălôm bərōḇ ‘inəyān wəqôl kəsîl bərōḇ dəḇārîm | Qoh 5:2 [KJV 5:3] For a dream cometh through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice is known by multitude of words. |
ka’ăšer tiddōr neḏer lē’lōhîm ’al-tə’aḥēr ləšalləmô kî ’ên ḥēp̱eṣ bakkəsîlîm ’ēṯ ’ăšer-tiddōr šallēm | Qoh 5:3 [KJV 5:4] When thou vowest a vow unto God, defer not to pay it; for he hath no pleasure in fools: pay that which thou hast vowed. |
ṭôḇ ’ăšer lō’-ṯiddōr miššettiddôr wəlō’ ṯəšallēm | Qoh 5:4 [KJV 5:5] Better is it that thou shouldest not vow, than that thou shouldest vow and not pay. |

kî ḇərōḇ ḥălōmôṯ wahăḇālîm ûḏəḇārîm harəbēh kî ’eṯ-hā’ĕlōhîm yərā’ | Qoh 5:6 [KJV 5:7] For in the multitude of dreams and many words there are also divers vanities: but fear thou God. |
’im-‘ōšeq rāš wəg̱ēzel mišəpāṭ wāṣeḏeq tirə’eh ḇamməḏînāh ’al-tiṯəmahh ‘al-haḥēp̱eṣ kî g̱āḇōhha mē‘al gāḇōhha šōmēr ûg̱əḇōhîm ‘ălêhem | Qoh 5:7 [KJV 5:8] If thou seest the oppression of the poor, and violent perverting of judgment and justice in a province, marvel not at the matter: for he that is higher than the highest regardeth; and there be higher than they. |
wəyiṯərôn ’ereṣ bakkōl hû’ meleḵ ləśāḏeh ne‘ĕḇāḏ | Qoh 5:8 [KJV 5:9] Moreover the profit of the earth is for all: the king himself is served by the field. |
’ōhēḇ kesep̱ lō’-yiśəba‘ kesep̱ ûmî-’ōhēḇ behāmôn lō’ ṯəḇû’āh gam-zeh hāḇel | Qoh 5:9 [KJV 5:10] He that loveth silver shall not be satisfied with silver; nor he that loveth abundance with increase: this is also vanity. |
birəḇôṯ birəḇôṯ haṭṭôḇāh haṭṭôḇāh rabbû rabbû ’ôḵəleyhā ’ôḵəleyhā ûmah-ûmah-kišərôn kišərôn liḇə‘āleyhā liḇə‘āleyhā kî kî rə’ûṯ ’im-‘ênāyw rə’ûṯ ‘ênāyw | Qoh 5:10 [KJV 5:11] When goods increase, they are increased that eat them: and what good is there to the owners thereof, saving the beholding of them with their eyes? |
məṯûqāh šənaṯ hā‘ōḇēḏ ’im-mə‘aṭ wə’im-harəbēh yō’ḵēl wəhaśśāḇā‘ le‘āšîr ’ênennû mannîaḥ lô lîšôn | Qoh 5:11 [KJV 5:12] The sleep of a labouring man is sweet, whether he eat little or much: but the abundance of the rich will not suffer him to sleep. |
yēš rā‘āh ḥôlāh rā’îṯî taḥaṯ haššāmeš ‘ōšer šāmûr liḇə‘ālāyw lərā‘āṯô | Qoh 5:12 [KJV 5:13] There is a sore evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept for the owners thereof to their hurt. |
wə’āḇaḏ hā‘ōšer hahû’ bə‘inəyan rā‘ wəhôlîḏ bēn wə’ên bəyāḏô mə’ûmāh | Qoh 5:13 [KJV 5:14] But those riches perish by evil travail: and he begetteth a son, and there is nothing in his hand. |
ka’ăšer yāṣā’ mibbeṭen ’immô ‘ārôm yāšûḇ lāleḵeṯ kəšebbā’ ûmə’ûmāh lō’-yiśśā’ ḇa‘ămālô šeyyōlēḵ bəyāḏô | Qoh 5:14 [KJV 5:15] As he came forth of his mother's womb, naked shall he return to go as he came, and shall take nothing of his labour, which he may carry away in his hand. |
wəg̱am-zōh rā‘āh ḥôlāh kāl-‘ummaṯ šebbā’ kēn yēlēḵ ûmah-yyiṯərôn lô šeyya‘ămōl lārûaḥ | Qoh 5:15 [KJV 5:16] And this also is a sore evil, that in all points as he came, so shall he go: and what profit hath he that hath laboured for the wind? |
gam kāl-yāmāyw baḥōšeḵ yō’ḵēl wəḵā‘as harəbēh wəḥāləyô wāqāṣep̱ | Qoh 5:16 [KJV 5:17] All his days also he eateth in darkness, and he hath much sorrow and wrath with his sickness. |
hinnēh hinnēh ’ăšer-’ăšer-rā’îṯî rā’îṯî ’ānî ’ānî ṭôḇ ṭôḇ ’ăšer-’ăšer-yāp̱eh yāp̱eh le’eḵôl-le’eḵôl-wəlišətôṯ wəlišətôṯ wəlirə’ôṯ wəlirə’ôṯ ṭôḇāh ṭôḇāh bəḵāl-bəḵāl-‘ămālô ‘ămālô šeyya‘ămōl šeyya‘ămōl taḥaṯ-taḥaṯ-haššemeš haššemeš misəpar misəpar yəmê-yəmê-ḥayyāw ḥayyāyw ’ăšer-ḥayyāyw nāṯan-’ăšer-nāṯan-lô lô hā’ĕlōhîm hā’ĕlōhîm kî-hû’ kî-hû’ ḥeləqô ḥeləqô | Qoh 5:17 [KJV 5:18] Behold that which I have seen: it is good and comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy the good of all his labour that he taketh under the sun all the days of his life, which God giveth him: for it is his portion. |
gam kāl-hā’āḏām ’ăšer nāṯan-lô hā’ĕlōhîm ‘ōšer ûnəḵāsîm wəhišəlîṭô le’ĕḵōl mimmennû wəlāśē’ṯ ’eṯ-ḥeləqô wəliśəmōaḥ ba‘ămālô zōh mattaṯ ’ĕlōhîm hî’ | Qoh 5:18 [KJV 5:19] Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour; this is the gift of God. |
kî lō’ harəbēh yizəkōr ’eṯ-yəmê ḥayyāyw kî hā’ĕlōhîm ma‘ăneh bəśiməḥaṯ libbô | Qoh 5:19 [KJV 5:20] For he shall not much remember the days of his life; because God answereth him in the joy of his heart. |
